Continued from Profile........
After about a year and a half, we had a litter of puppies and kept one of them so Belle wouldn't need so much attention from us. Belle is about seven years old now and has had four litters of pug puppies for us and her oldest daughter that we kept as a companion has had three. In the fall of 2008, they both had litters at the same time. Eight little puppies. Whew, did I have a lot of visits from the Grandkids!! If the truth be known, the grandkid visits is one of the biggest reasons we keep the pugs :-). The younger female, Ruby (whose AKC name is Ruby Rebelle because she was such an independent 'rebel')is quite a bit smaller than her mother but has more puppies. In 2008, Ruby got mastitis and get really sick and lost a mammary gland. Belle just took all the pups and fed both litters - 8 all together. The situation scared me and I decided to keep one more puppy just in case one of the older dogs got something fatal.
They keep each other company and the sales of the puppies pay for dog food and the other minor things the dogs need.
I downloaded a bunch of puppy pics but can't seem to find them now. Check again if you want to see them, maybe I will figure it out.
